Connect GitHub

Install the FyneDesk GitHub App so support can follow issues and pull requests without moving customer conversations into GitHub.

Admin setup, Pro plan A FyneDesk admin connects GitHub once from Settings → Connections → GitHub. The live integration supports GitHub.com on Pro and Business. GitHub Enterprise Server is not supported yet.

Before you start

  • You must be a FyneDesk organization admin.
  • Your workspace must be on Pro or Business.
  • You need permission to install or request the FyneDesk GitHub App for the required GitHub organization and repositories.

Connect GitHub

  1. Open Settings → Connections → GitHub.
  2. Select Connect and install the FyneDesk GitHub App.
  3. Choose only the repositories FyneDesk should be able to use.
  4. Approve the installation and return to FyneDesk.

Permissions FyneDesk uses

The GitHub App reads repository metadata and pull requests and reads or writes issues for the repositories selected during installation. GitHub installation tokens are scoped to that installation; repositories outside it are not available to FyneDesk.

How information moves

  • FyneDesk → GitHub: an agent can create a GitHub issue from a ticket, link an existing issue or pull request, or send a separate note to engineering.
  • GitHub → FyneDesk: issue or pull-request state and GitHub comments return to every linked ticket.
  • Customer boundary: GitHub comments are always stored as internal FyneDesk notes. Customer replies do not post to GitHub.
  • Many-to-many links: one ticket may follow several GitHub items, and one item may be linked to several customer tickets.

Status, retries, and health

When a mapped issue closes or pull request merges, FyneDesk can reopen every linked ticket so support can follow up. GitHub App webhooks provide live updates, while periodic reconciliation checks selected repositories for updates that a webhook may miss. The connection page shows the last processed update plus pending and failed events.

Limits to know

  • GitHub.com is supported; GitHub Enterprise Server is coming soon.
  • Only repositories selected for the GitHub App installation are available.
  • Developer comments stay internal until an agent deliberately shares the relevant information with the customer.
  • Reopening depends on the configured external-to-FyneDesk status mapping.

Manage or disconnect

Use Settings → Connections → GitHub to review health or disconnect. To change repository access, update the FyneDesk GitHub App installation in GitHub. Existing ticket links remain as historical references after disconnect, but new updates stop until the connection is restored.
